Where is Nikiti?
Nikiti is a town of Sithonia, Halkidiki. It is about 105 Km away from Thessaloniki, while Polygyros, the capital of Halkidiki is 36 Km away. Natural beauty characterises Nikiti as well as long beaches. During summer many Greeks and foreigners choose Nikiti for their vacation.

History of Nikiti
The area of Nikiti has been inhabited for over three thousand years. Herodotus in his History of Median Wars mentioned the town of Galipsous which is located in the wider area of Nikiti. During the Hellinistic and the Roman years, around the church of Agios Georgios there was a significant settlement. Today there are remains of an Early Christian basilica of that era and it is one of the most significant monuments that are located in Northern Greece.
The first official written report of this settlement is found in Xenophon Monastery of Agion Oros, in an inventory of the beginning of the 14th century. This settlement managed to develop even during the years of the Ottoman empire. As you can realise, Nikiti is one of the oldest towns of Halkidiki.
This old town fascinates its visitors with the traditional Macedonian architecture and its stone houses.
How can I get to Nikiti?
First of all you must get to Thessaloniki. This can be done by taking an Aeroplane and landing at Thessaloniki Airport SKG. Also you can go to Thessaloniki by car or train, but these are more demanding options.
From Thessaloniki you will head to Halkidiki. This can be done either by car or by KTEL Bus. The first option is much more comfortable and fast while the second is actually cheaper but lasts longer. You can even hire Transfer Services to take you to Nikiti and the cost is not as high as you may think. This option will also save you from the trouble of driving or finding the best route to your destination. I must definitely mention that there are no railways in Halkidiki, so don’t waste your time trying to find a train that goes there.
The trip from Thessaloniki to Nikiti by car lasts more than an hour. The road is good and there are signs that help you find your way there. If you take the KTEL Bus you must first go to Halkidiki KTEL station and then take the bus that goes to Nikiti. The trip by bus lasts less than two hours.
What should I see while I am in Nikiti?
If you can not choose whether you want to spend your vacation at the sea or on the mountain, you should consider visiting Nikiti. Nikiti offers the travellers the opportunity to enjoy both these sights.
There is a historic settlement with houses built since 1830 in Nikiti. This traditional area definitely is worth visiting. Architecture here follows the traditional Macedonian rules and the houses have specially formed chimneys which proves the talent of those who made them.
The church of Agios Nikitas, built since 1867 as well as the old school are great destinations, if you want to go for a stroll inside the town any time of the day.
You can also enjoy the tasty food at one of the taverns or restaurants and relax in front of the sea. Also, you can have a stroll right on the beach and have a refreshment or a drink while gazing at the sunset.
If you are in Nikiti on the 15th of September, you will definitely witness the local fest that takes place every year in order to honour Saint Nikitas.

As you’ve already heard, North Greece is famous for its tasty cuisine. Halkidiki follows that rule and Nikiti has many great places where you can enjoy food. Whether you can afford paying a little more or not, you will definitely find delicious food that meets your needs. A great place is Boukadoura Akti Elias where you can enjoy fish, sea food and traditional Greek dishes. You will also find vegan and gluten free options as well as vegetarian dishes. If you prefer fast food and want to try gyros, you can visit Gyromania in Nikiti. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is quite good. Another place that might surprise you is Apovrado. You probably won’t notice it at first because it is not located by the beach. However, you will find there tasty dishes mainly of fish and seafood. For a cup of coffee or a sweet you can go to To Spitaki. It serves coffee and tea as well as ice cream, crepes and waffles.
Where can I go swimming?
Nikiti is a wide area and has many turquoise beaches such as Ai Gianni beach, Karidi Beach, Elia and Koviou Beach. These are considered to be some of the most beautiful beaches of Halkidiki. Of course the beach of Nikiti is always a great option. If you have the means I would suggest swimming in a different beach every day so that you can enjoy the magnificent warm waters of Sithonia.
