Kavourotrypes:
Kavourotrypes is a very special beach. It is characterized by incredible natural beauty that resembles the beaches and landscape of Hawaii. For this reason, it has earned the nickname “the Greek Hawaii.”
Kavourotrypes is approximately 125 kilometers away from Macedonia Airport Skg in Thessaloniki. Access to Kavourotrypes can be a bit challenging as there is no proper signs on the road, and part of it is a dirt road. Nevertheless, with proper preparation and the use of GPS, you can reach the beach and enjoy the enchanting scenery. You won’t find an organised parking for your car, so you will have to park on the road just before the beach, as everyone else does.
Upon arriving at Kavourotrypes, you’ll realize that it’s not a single beach but a complex of smaller beaches. On one of these beaches, you’ll find the beach bar Portokali, which provides water, coffee, and other refreshments.
The other beaches in the area are not organized. They are more secluded and deserted, allowing you to enjoy your swimming with greater peace and quiet. If you prefer to avoid crowds and relax at Kavourotrypes without having to search free space for your belongings, it would be best to avoid the peak months of July and August. You can plan your vacation during early summer or autumn when there are fewer visitors, and the beaches at Kavourotrypes have more available space and tranquility.
However, it’s good to know that the beaches at Kavourotrypes are rocky, so extra care is needed when entering or exiting the water. Additionally, the beach does not have a lifeguard.
If you decide not to stay at the organized beach, you should bring an umbrella, mat, hat, and of course, sunscreen to avoid sunburn from the hot sun. There is also the option to sit under the pine trees, which in some places reach right up to the sea.
Porto Koufo:
A very unique beach is Porto Koufo. Located at the southernmost tip of the Sithonia peninsula and just 25 kilometers from Neos Marmaras, this beach’s uniqueness lies primarily in the great and steep depth of its waters. Just a few steps from the shore, the sea deepens abruptly. The deep blue color indicates that the seabed is many meters below. It is no coincidence that during World War II, the Germans used this natural harbor for their ships and submarines.
Due to its great depth, this beach attracts spearfishing and fishing enthusiasts. If you enjoy these activities, you will certainly have a great time at this beach. Access is easy as the beach is located right on the road, and you will follow a route through the pine trees to get there.
You won’t find crowds at Porto Koufo. However, you will certainly enjoy the natural beauty and the scenery of the village. If you wish, you can also try the fresh fish at one of the local fish taverns, as the fishing boats bring in their catch daily.
Special caution is needed for children and those who are not strong swimmers, as the depth of the sea can be dangerous.
Tristinika:
A very impressive beach in Sithonia is Tristinika. You will find it next to the beach of Toroni and about 19 kilometers from Neos Marmaras. The length of the beach exceeds one kilometer. The sand is fine, and the waters, which deepen relatively quickly, are crystal clear. On Tristinika beach, you will find a beach bar that provides free sunbeds and umbrellas to its customers. If you enjoy camping, you can also spend a few days at the nearby campsite.
Overall, Tristinika caters to those who prefer less organized beaches and seek a more natural experience. On the way to the beach, you will encounter a section of dirt road, and you will have to leave your car on the road as there is no parking lot. At Tristinika, you will also witness some of the most beautiful sunsets. If you stay there until sunset, the view will be totally rewarding.
Akti Kalogrias:
Kalogria Beach (Akti Kalogrias) is one of the most famous beaches in Sithonia. Many people distinguish Kalogria Beach for its unique turquoise waters, the pine trees that provide shade, and the small island located just two hundred meters from the shore, which can be easily reached by swimming.
You will find Kalogria Beach between Nikiti and Neos Marmaras. The road to the beach is relatively easy, although there is no specific parking area. Visitors leave their vehicles on the side of the road, and those who arrive early can park under the trees.
It’s advisable to arrive at the beach relatively early to find parking and secure your ideal spot on the beach. There is an organized section of the beach where you can sit on sunbeds and under umbrellas. Two beach bars offer daily their services and products to numerous visitors. However, the southern part of the beach is not organized, and you can bring your own equipment and enjoy your swim in your own way.
The sea is shallow in the southern part and deeper in the northern part. Many families choose Kalogria Beach for its crystal-clear waters, coarse sand that doesn’t stick to the body, and the beautiful natural landscape.
Trani Ammouda (Great Sand):
Definitely one of the best beaches in Sithonia, Trani Ammouda, as its name suggests, boasts a great length (around 1800 meters) and is covered with fine, golden sand. Its size allows it to accommodate a large number of visitors. The waters are crystal clear and shallow, attracting many families with young children. Every year it is awarded the Blue Flag and features several beach bars that provide sunbeds and umbrellas. However, there is also plenty of free space for those who prefer to use their own equipment. This beach is so large (as its name implies) that it is unlikely to ever feel crowded.
Sarti:
One of the largest beaches in Sithonia is Sarti Beach, stretching up to three kilometers. It is awarded the Blue Flag and it has a lifeguard, water sports, and beach volleyball. The beach’s size allows all visitors to find a spot to sit and enjoy the sea. The beach bars offer umbrellas, sunbeds, and various products, while if you prefer an unorganized beach experience, you will certainly find space to set up your own equipment.
The view of Mount Athos from the beach is also stunning. Especially on clear days, you can take beautiful photos of the beach with Athos in the background. Access to the beach is easy, making it ideal for families.
Neos Marmaras:
On the western side of Sithonia, 20 kilometers from Nikiti, lies Neos Marmaras. This popular and cosmopolitan village in Halkidiki attracts countless tourists every summer. The beach is partially organized, has a lifeguard, and is awarded the Blue Flag every year. It is suitable for both families and groups of friends and provides relatively easy access for people with special needs. The waters are shallow but deepen relatively quickly, so a bit of extra caution is needed.
The sandy beach and turquoise waters of Neos Marmaras, combined with the cafes, taverns, and shops along the shoreline, make it a wonderful choice for swimming and fun.
Sykia:
Very close to Sarti is the beach of Sykia. If you enjoy being close to nature and prefer a beach without many facilities, then Sykia is an excellent choice. It has some beach bars that provide sunbeds and umbrellas to their customers, but generally, the area doesn’t have many shops. However, it boasts stunning natural beauty. The sea is shallow and sandy, making it ideal for families. Access is not difficult as it is about a kilometer away from the main road. The view from the beach is exceptional, as you can clearly see Mount Athos and Agion Oros. Near Sykia beach, you can also discover other smaller beaches of unique beauty, such as Griavas beach, Valti, Tourkolimnionas beach, Klimataria, and Linaraki. They are all amazing.
Armenistis:
Armenistis is considered, by many people, to be the most beautiful beach in Sithonia. Every year, countless visitors come to this beach which is especially preferred by younger people. Armenistis Beach is organized, equipped with camping facilities, and awarded the Blue Flag every year. The waters are shallow, warm, suitable for young children, and the sand is fine and golden. Trees, mainly pines and plane trees, reach down to the sea in many places. You must take also under consideration that the largest part of the beach borders the camping area. This means that if you want to pass through the camping area, you will need to pay a fee.
Kalamitsi:
Just six kilometers away from Sykia and approximately one hundred fifty kilometers from Thessaloniki, at the edge of Sithonia, lies Kalamitsi. Many consider Kalamitsi Beach to be the best in Halkidiki. Of course, there are countless beaches that equally vie for this title.
At the beach, which is well-equipped, you will find water sports equipment available for rent as well as a beach bar with sunbeds and umbrellas. The sea is relatively deep and the sand is fine and white. The area also has other smaller beaches and a camping site.
Akti Elias:
Between Nikiti and Neos Marmaras you will come accross Elia Beach. This beach is approximately two kilometers long but relatively narrow. Behind the beach, there are cliffs where pine trees flourish. These trees extend over the beach in many places, providing their shade and coolness. The waters are shallow and warm, while the beach consists of sand and pebbles. Access to the beach is easy, and you’ll need to leave your vehicle on the road.
Toroni:
A well-known destination both for vacations and for swimming in the sea is Toroni. Toroni Beach is ideal for families and children. The sea is shallow and sandy. The beach is accessible to people with mobility difficulties and has lifeguards. Like many beaches in Halkidiki, Toroni Beach also boasts a Blue Flag and features a beach bar with sunbeds and umbrellas. In Toroni, you can also explore the ruins of the Byzantine castle of Likythos, while you can try diving to explore the ancient city.
Vourvourou:
Vourvourou is a unique destination in Sithonia. Vourvourou Beach has sandy shores and the sea is relatively shallow. However, the area also features many smaller beaches that attract numerous swimmers. One of these is Karidi, which resembles the Caribbean. At Karidi, the beach is unorganized but boasts natural beauty and stunning turquoise waters.
Visitors to Vourvourou know it as a gateway to Diaporos, a cluster of islands with unique beaches. You can rent a boat and explore as many as you want. These beaches are sandy with calm waters. You’ll definitely have a unique experience!
